Healing is a gentle, non-invasive therapy which is suitable for people and animals. It is not ‘faith healing’ and there is no requirement for religious belief by the patient. However, it is helpful if the patient has an open mind about what might happen and a degree of trust in the healer.
Healers are required by law to keep records of their sessions with patients. These are confidential under data protection legislation.
At the first appointment of a patient with a healer, the healer will discuss the reasons for the patient seeking help and will explain exactly what will happen during the session. They will complete a record card with the patient.
It is not necessary for a patient to remove any clothing during a healing session. Before starting, the healer will ask the patient if they are happy to be touched and if they are not, the healer will make no physical contact during the session. The patient will be asked to make themselves comfortable sitting on a chair. In order to help the patient to gain the most benefit from the session, they will be given a simple relaxation exercise based around breathing. The healer usually starts behind the patient with hands placed on the patient’s shoulders to attune’ to them. They will then move their hands around the patient to direct healing energy. When the healer has finished, they will stand behind the patient with hands on their shoulders again.
The sensations experienced by a patient during healing are variable. These include heat, coldness, tingling, from the healer’s hands, or from within. Sometimes nothing is felt. It is not unusual for it to take time before any effect of healing is noticed, and sometimes patients feel worse briefly before noticing any beneficial effects.
The number of healing sessions for any patient is not fixed; it is determined by the needs of the patient.
